Potential energy of a string

Hi,

I have to use Hamilton pricinple to evaluate the diff. equation of motion of a string. As shown in the figure below, the string is hanged from one end and is free at the other. The flexural stiffness of the string is negligible.

I have a problem with the potential energy of the string! required in the Hamilton principle. Since the flexural stiffness of the string is assumed to be negligible, is there any other term for potential energy?

Stiffness Matrix Calculation of the Pipe Element of ALGOR PipePak

Hi friends

I've a question about ALGOR PipePak...how does ALGOR(PipePak) calculate the stiffness matrix of a pipe element...I guess it's available on its user's guide,,,but unfortunately I don't access that...can anybody guide me on this issue ?

Subspace Mode Extraction Method@ANSYS

Hi
I've a question about the Subspace method as one of the mode extraction methods of ANSYS.I want to extract the first 100 modes of a system with more than 200 DOFs,
I assigned "No. mode to extract" to 100.
but when I ran the analysis, ANSYS just calculated the first 75 modes of the system...
I checked out the Subspace options again and I saw "No. mode to extract" was assigned to 75!!!!, I don't know why this option has changed??!

any help is appreciated
Regards

Problem with Layer Symmetry Key of Shell99 in ANSYS

Hi

I want to model a composite laminate by shell99 in ANSYS.This laminate is symmetrical about the midplane,so I adjust Layer Symmetry Key(LSYM) to 1 and halve the number of layers. when I compare the maximum deflection of this model with the max deflection of the model with LSYM=0(by inputing total layers) there is a big difference between these two results. It's natural that the results should be the same. I don't know why this error occurs.

Question: ANSYS & Laminate Composite Plate

Hi friends
I want to use ANSYS to find the maximum deflection of a laminate composite plate that is made of graphite epoxy .It has 100 mm width and 500 mm length.
The layup is [45(10),0(10)]  (20 Layers).
The plate is simply supported along all 4 edges and is subjected to a uniformly distributed transverse direction load p=10,000 N/m2.

The material properties of the layers are as below:

Question: Beam Element in ANSYS Theory Reference

Hi
I have read some descriptions about beam element in chapter 14 of Element Library of ANSYS Theory Reference(ANSYS Help),it is mentioned that the stiffness matrix of a beam element in element coordinates is a 12x12 matrix that its elements are calculated in the same way as przemieniecki's book(Przemieniecki, J. S., Theory of Matrix Structural Analysis, McGraw-Hill, New York (1968))
Unfortunately I didn't find this book in the library,if any body has read this book,if it is possible guide me how przemieniecki have reached to such stiffness matrix?

Sincerely yours

Request: Journal of Applied Mechanics 1959

Hi
I need urgent for an artice in the  journal of applied mechanics,ASME(an old issue--> December 1959).My requested article is "Piping Flexibility Analysis"  by L.H. Chen
Is there any one has this issue?

Sincerely yours

Question about Pipe Model in Abaqus

Hi

I am a beginner in working with Abaqus(v 6.3),I want to model a simple piping system,I use pipe and elbow elements,in section assignment, I select a beam section for the part .But When I run the job,an error occurs due to element properties in section assignment, when I use beam element instead of pipe there is not such an error in job-run.
but I want to use pipe and elbow elements...what can I do to solve this problem?

any help is appreciated
