3D Printing of cylindrical shells with varied stiffness

Hi, all,

I'm planning to print a series of cylindrical shells with different material patches on shell surface. The size is about 100 mm in length, 80 mm in diameter and 0.5 mm in shell thickness. The shell was designed with varied stiffness by using two different material properties. The 3D assembly has been created with two groups such that it is easy to select one group for a specific material. I wonder did any of you try some commercial 3D printing companies or providers who can fabricate similar structure with varied stiffness and afforable cost. Let me know. Thanks!

Define Varied Global Stiffness for a PLA printed Cylindrical shell in Abaqus

Hi, all.

We are modeling a cylindrical shell in Abaqus. The cylindrical shell was fabricated with PLA through the 3D printing technology. We did a tensile test and found that the global stiffness along the axial direction and circumferential direction is different. So, we tried to find a better way to model such varied stiffness in the Abaqus model. Any advice on how to define such material in elastic region would be appreciated.

Running a Matlab job in batch mode on a research server

Hi, all,

I  was trying to run a Matlab m file to do some post precessing in my optimization loops. I need to run it as a batch mode without opening either Matlat interface or command window. I was trying multiple ways and it doesn't work. Any experience on this, PLEASE let me know! 

So, my question simply as "I need to run obj.m and get design.txt". I've already used fopen and fprintf to write output txt file. I need to know how to run this obj.m file! Thanks.

Sensitivity Analysis with Abaqus

Hi, all

I'm working on a structural optimization problem invovled with running numiercal analysis with Abaqus. Therefore, it is impossible for us to use the direct differentiation method to calculate the sensitivity of design variable. But I guess there should a way to get sensitivity analysis done numerically with Abaqus. Anyone know such information or give me a short instruction on that, I would highly appreciate!

Obtain Load-displacement curve from Abaqus/Explicit analysis via Python

Hi, all,

I'm quite sure we can use Python read displacement and load for certin node set from Abaqus odb result file and then plot X-Y data (That's all I need). I has been struggling for a whole week to find out a good solution. I've many resources out there but nothing has been worked out though. So, I wonder if anyone knows how to address this issue or even share me a link. I really appreciate it!
