PhD studentships available in mechanical behaviour of materials at Birmingham University (UK)

Two fully funded PhD positions have become available at PRISM2 research centre at the Universtiy of Birmingham (UK). Due to funding restrictions, unfortunately the position is only open to European Union citizens. We offer a net pay of around £1500 per month for 3 years as well as coverage of travel to appropiate conferences and other courses.

The applicants should hold a degree in engineering, physics or maths.

Please find attached more detailed project descriptions as well as contact address.

Post-Doc Position Available in Fracture Mechanics

This is a 9 months post-doc position on modelling crack problems at Portsmouth University (UK).

PhD studentship on Validation of crystal plasticity models in 3D policrystals at Portsmouth University (UK)

Fatigue life prediction in the aerospace components relies on fracture mechanics for relatively long cracks (>1mm). Nevertheless, most of the fatigue life is spent while the crack is relatively short (<1mm). However life of short cracks is far from well understood leading engineers to apply over conservative safety factors which involves environmental and economic losses. The material microstructure is responsible for the large life uncertainty in short cracks.
