Tunable electrical and mechanical responses of PDMS and polypyrrole nanowire composites

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics

Ping Du, Xi Lin, Xin Zhang

Volume 46, Number 19, Page 195303

doi:10.1088/0022-3727/46/19/195303

A generic experimental procedure is presented in this work to enhance
the electrical responses of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) through
incorporation of conducting polymer nanowires, while maintaining the
desirable mechanical flexibility of PDMS. The conducting polypyrrole

Mesh and Increment Size-Lamb Wave Propagation Simulation

Hey all,

I am simulating Lamb wave propagation in a plate and was wondering if anyone knows where I can find the criteria to chose the mesh size and the time increment size. Thank you.

PhD/Post-Doc Position(s) at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow

Dear All,

We are planning to offer several PhD/Post-Doc positions at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. The positions are expected to be in the area of computational mechanics including finite element analysis and panel methods. If you are interested, please send your current CV to oterkus@gmail.com .

Best Regards,

Dr. Erkan Oterkus

Post-Doctoral Opening on Multiscale Modeling of Materials

We are seeking to hire outstanding candidates for a post-doctoral research position in

the Koslowski’s group at Purdue University to work on dislocation dynamics and/or

continuum modeling of plasticity. The project involves developing and applying

numerical methods to study creep and plastic deformation in nano and ultrafine

crystalline materials. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with a

wide range of experimentalists and theoreticians in academia, industry and national labs.

Electric Potential B.C. in the Dynamic/Explicit Step

Hey all,

I am trying to apply an Electric Potential B.C. to a surface. I want to use the dynamic/explicit analysis type, however, when I select that as my step type, the Electric Potential B.C. option disappears from the edit B.C. window! Is that due to a license limitation or an error I might have made in one of the definitions?

Thank you!

thermodynamics equilibrium state vs. steady state???

I am not clear about two concepts: thermodynamics equilibrium state and steady state. It's easy to conceive of the following different two osmosis processes regarding thermodynamics equilibrium state and steady state, respecitvely.

How to partition an hexagonal with curves corners 3D solid

Dear all,

I would like to receive an advice so as to partition in a properly way this hexagonal solid. I tryed to use partition cell extrude cell/sweep edge in the the curved  edge, but the solid it has not been partitioned.

thanks in advanced

Overhead Electrical Conductors

In elementary mechanics textbooks, power lines are generally given as a typical example of a so-called “flexible cable”. However, in the design of these critical elements of a power grid  it is often necessary to take into account the conductor bending stiffness, or flexural rigidity. While relatively low compared with a bar having an equivalent solid cross-section, it does have some influence on a conductor response to wind excitation, in particular from the fatigue strength point of view.

How to creat a ellipsoidal model?

prediction of crack path which is subjected to stress gradient and biaxial load.

Dear all.

I'm currently doing some research concerning crack path prediction in brittle thin film.

But I'm struggled to find efficient way to do it.

In reality my case: stress is higly confined within semi infinite narrow rectangular strip patten and out of this rectangular, stress is very low or near 0 compared to stress within the pattern. Crack starts from left side end and propagates within pattern toward right end side of pattern. Crack show wavy propagation behavior with regular period and amplitude.

eulerian region inside

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to model a 2D orthogonal cutting by Abaqus by using ALE method. I have some distortion of mesh in front of the cuuting noise so I try to define an eulerian surfaces around the cutting noise.
