An observation on the experimental measurement of dislocation density

The common practice of ignoring the elastic strain gradient in measurements of geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) density is critically examined. It is concluded that the practice may result in substantial errors. Our analysis points to the importance of spatial variations of the elastic strain field in relation to its magnitude in inferring estimates of dislocation density from measurements.

    I want to  combine XFEM and UMAT(about concrete) in ABAQUS,I have some questions about this ,concrete is a Special materials and I have the Constitutive equation about concrete ;Can I use the new constitutive equation and  simulate mixed CONCRETE cracking by XFEM(UEL_XFEM) in ABAQUS,how to combine UEL and UMAT in abaqus, thanks in advance,or you can Recommend  some relative infomation for me

How to see elements or areas inside 3D-FE-model (Abaqus/CAE)

Dear everyone,

I created 3D-FE- model in Abaqus, but I don’t know how to see the element inside 3D model.

I want to check if I mesh the model properly after meshing the model.

Could anyone please suggest me how I can solve this problem?

All I know is that we can see the results in each element inside the model by using view cut in Visualization-module, but I don’t know how to make Abaqus show the element or areas inside the 3D model in Mesh-module (or Part-module).

Is it possible to define a dimensionless number being capable of characterizing the two effects with totally opposite direction?

1. assuming to exist a PDE describing an equilibrium along one direction (e.g., postive direction along X coordinate), A+B=0;

2. after normalization process to the above PDE, we got, A*+(C)B*=0;

3. (C)=B/A, is the dimensionless number, and obviously, (C) implicits that both two effects arising from A and B are the same in the direction, i.e., along the X positive coordanate;

I am modeling a post-tensioned concrete pier with 4 part:

-concrete foundation,pier,cap(C3D8R) and tendon(wire,B31)

 I input prestress force by predefined file,stress in initial step.The first step is static,General to find equilibrium.

 I embeded the beginning & the end of wire in foundation & cap. contact between (foundation,pier) & (pier,cap) is hard normal contact and the tangential behavior is penalty.
