Third issue of new Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials now online
Volume 1 Number 3 of Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials is now online on Elsevier's e-platform, ScienceDirect at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/17516161. This is a special issue of newly published original research, focussing on mechanical behaviour, presented at the TMS Biological Materials Science Symposium under the leadership of Marc Meyers, Andrea Hodge, Robert Ritchie and Ryan Roeder. Topics include bone tissue engineering, dental implants, nanoengineered scaffolds, hydroxyapatite-reinforced polymers, bioactive glasses, titanium alloys and shape-memory alloys. This collection of papers reflects a cross-section of this exciting new scientific field.

Biomechanics is not new
Dean -- I am pleased to see the new Journal doing well, but I have to take issue with the mention of this "exciting new scientific field." Yes the breadth of current biomechanics is greater than that of the past, and yes it is growing quickly and incorporating people from many different backgrounds than it did previously. But the establishment of the field falls firmly with Fung's work in the 1960s and continued strongly through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s with pioneers like Mow, Woo, An and many others.
A "really" new initiative: Google Healthmap on PlosMedicine !
dear Dean and Michelle
a perhaps unquestionably really new and high impact initiative is rather this: maybe Dean and Elsevier want to cover the news in their journal too?
Google launches HealthMap and PlosMedicine covers the launch
