*22**nd** International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics,*

*Adelaide, Australia, 24-30 August, 2008*

As you probably know, the 22nd International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM) will be held in Adelaide, Australia in August 2008.
The Congress website is at http://ictam2008.adelaide,edu.au <http://ictam2008.adelaide,edu.au/> where you can read the First Announcement of the Congress. From it you will see that, as usual, the Congress Committee has chosen a wide range of topics, covering the entire field of Mechanics, to be the subjects of Pre-nominated Sessions.
We have been selected as co-chairs for the Pre-nominated Session on Experimental Mechanics, and it is our pleasant duty to encourage acknowledged experts in this field to submit contributions to the Congress. Accordingly, we are writing to you to encourage you to submit a paper, to be presented in either a Lecture Session (occupying a 20-minuste slot, including discussion) or a Seminar Presentation Session (a 5-minute slot plus the opportunity to display a poster). Your submission, prepared according to the instructions given on the website and in the First Announcement, should reach the Congress Office no later than 11 January, 2008.
We shall inform the International Papers Committee (IPC) that we have encouraged you to submit a contribution to our Pre-nominated Session. You should be aware, however, that the final decision on whether a paper is accepted rests with the IPC. They will meet in late March 2008 to make their decisions on which papers should be accepted.
We very much hope that you will indeed submit a paper to the Congress, so that the Pre-nominated Session on Experimental Mechanics of Solids can truly represent the state of the art in this field.
