Video podcast of future Timoshenko Medal Acceptance Speeches?

Shall we consider to videotape the future Timoshenko Medal Acceptance Speeches and make them available as podcasts (video and audio) to mechanicians via iMechanica? As Prof. Hughes said in his speech, "It took me quite a long time to READ the lectures and the situation will only be worse in the future". However, listening to and watching those great minds talking to you will make the process much more vivid and enjoyable. Via iMechanica, the video and audio podcasts will allow much more mechanicians to enjoy these precious speeches as those fortunate audience in front of the speakers always do.

Any suggestions?

Prof. Hughes is one of the

Prof. Hughes is one of the most admired professors for me. I think he gave a good description on the current development in the field of computational mechanics.

"Lately, mesh generation, equation solving, visualization, and data management are becoming the province of computer scientists. Theoretical issues are now dealt with by computational mathematicians. However, the more physics-based technologies, and in particular, mechanics, still belong to application scientists and I believe that that will continue to be the case. "

Just hope we don't need to go to a computer scientist (or even a computer game developer) to ask for new ideas for our work.

Imechanica rocks!

Isn't it cool that Prof. Hughes mentions imechanica in his speech? I think it is a good boost for the forum. I hope some people who listened to the speech or read it from another page will go "imechanica what?" and show up here.

My hearty thanks to iMechanica for providing these great speeches of these great scientists and engineers in the fields of mechanics. These are inspiring a lot for young people like me.

acceptance speech printed in Applied Mechanics Newsletters

The Applied Mechanics Newsletter started printing the texts of the speeches in late 1980s. You might be able to find these printed, but it might be hard to find the earlier ones.

I'm curious when this tradition of giving an acceptance speech started for the Timoshenko Medal.
