The department has top-ranked graduate and undergraduate programs.  Our faculty and students have access to world-class interdisciplinary opportunities, including extensive state-of-the-art expermental and computational facilities housed on campus.  These facilities include the Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory, the Beckman Institute, the Coordinated Science Laboratory, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, and the Institute for Genomic Biology.  Information about the department can be found at the department's website: http://mechse.illinois.edu/.

We anticipate multiple tenure track appointments.  While preference will be given to junior candidates, senior apointments will be considered for persons of outstanding achievement.  Successful candidates are expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active, independent reserach program, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession.  The successful candidate will show signficant potential for leadership.

A doctoral degree is required, and salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Full consideration will be given to applications received by December 1, 2011.  Applications received after that date may be considered until positions are filled.  Interviews may take place before the given date; however, no decisions will be made until after that time.  The position could start as soon as January 2012.

Applicants should create a candidate profile at http://jobs.illinois.edu.  A complete application includes a curriculum vitae, teaching and research statements, cover letter, and the names and contact information of four references.  Applicants should submit this information in pdf format.  All requested information must be submitted for an application to be considered.  For further information regarding application procedures, please address questions to: mechse-facultyrecruiting@illinois.edu.
