Postdoctoral Position in Mechanical Properties of Materials at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in Dr. Ying Chen's lab in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY.  A Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely-related field is required. The ideal candidate should have strong interest and expertise in microstructure-mechanical property correlations, and have experiences with finite element simulations or mesoscale mechanical modeling.  Prior research experiences with the role of interfaces and grain boundaries in the deformation of polycrystalline or multiphase materials are desirable. Potential projects will primarily involve modeling of thermo-mechanical coupling in multifunctional composite materials, and/or deformation processes of nanocrystalline materials. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to involve in related experiments in our lab. To apply, please send CV with the contact information of at least three references to ying.chen.mit AT gmail.com

About the PI: Chen received her BS from Tsinghua University in China in 2004, and PhD from MIT in 2008, both in Materials Science and Engineering.  After working as a postdoctoral associate at MIT for two more years and as a materials scientist at GE Global Research Center for a year, she will join the faculty in DMSE at RPI in November 2011.  She is interested in mechanical properties of materials, topological effects of microstructures, shape memory materials, microstructural evolutions and deformation mechanisms in nanocrystalline materials and nanostructures, computational materials science and mechanics.
