Postdoc on Isogeometric Analysis at the University of Pavia

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral position in Isogeometric Analysis at the University of Pavia.

Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) is a recent idea (introduced by T.J.R. Hughes et al. in 2005) to bridge the gap between  Computer Aided Design (CAD) and numerical simulation based on partial differential equations. The key feature of IGA is to extend the finite element method, representing both field variables and geometry by functions, such as Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS), which are used by CAD systems. The IGA research group in Pavia consists of both engineers  and mathematicians, with an experience on IGA dating back to its very infancy. Research focuses on both theoretical and applicative aspects of IGA.

The position research focus is "Isogeometric methods for continuum mechanics" and will be funded by the FP7 "Ideas" ERC Starting Grant project ISOBIO, whose Principal Investigator is Alessandro Reali (University of Pavia). Research will be mainly supervised by Giancarlo Sangalli (University of Pavia).

The applicant should have a PhD in Engineering or  Mathematics, and solid knowledge and skills of finite elements from the applicative point of view. Moreover, she/he is required to have a strong programming experience, possibly in C++.
The net salary can vary between 1500 and 2000 Euros per month (after taxes), depending on the level of the applicant. The duration of the Post-Doc position is 1 year, and can be extended to 2 years.

For further information please contact: Annalisa Buffa (annalisa@imati.cnr.it), Alessandro Reali <alessandro.reali@unipv.it>,  or Giancarlo Sangalli (giancarlo.sangalli@unipv.it).
