CONTINUUM MODELING OF INTERFACES IN POLYMER MATRIX COMPOSITES REINFORCED BY CARBON NANOTUBES

The interface behavior may significantly influence the mechanical properties of carbon nanotube (CNT)-reinforced composites due to the large interface area per unit volume at the composite. The modeling of CNT/polymer interfaces has been a challenge in the continuum modeling of CNT reinforced composites.

This paper presents a review of recent progress to model the CNT/matrix interfaces via a cohesive law established from the van der Waals force. A simple, analytical cohesivelaw is obtained from the interatomic potential, and is used to study the effect of CNT/matrix interfaces on the macroscopic properties of CNT-reinforced composites.

 I am Ramin Aghababaei , new PhD student at Mechanical Department of National University of Singapore. My thesis is about finite element modeling of nanocomposites. 

Because I am at the first way of my research, I want to know more about my research topic  and know exactly why I want to do  or what is the problem and how can I solve it?  

So I have some questions and your experience is invaluable for me in this way.

1-what are the important parameters in the modeling of nanostructures which must be consider?

2-what is the main problem of current finite element method to model the nanostructure, especially nanocomposite materials(for example in traditional methods or in ABAQUS program)?

3-Can we expand traditional methods like as Rayleigh-Ritz or Least square methods to model and analysis of nanocomposites?

I have just search the subject about carbon nanotubes on the web at noon today.I am so happy to see your message here,I hope to have the time to carefully read your papers published recently.  I am just a graduate student and has access to micro-scale mechanics recently. Hi all,

This is Bankim J Sanghavi. i am doing research on CNTs. i want to prepare CNTs by using CVD process. But the reproducibility by this CVD method is not very good.

Could someone please suggest me some way how to get good reproducibility.

Are there any other methods which can be used in a normal laboratory to prepare CNTs?

I shall be highly obliged if I could get a reply soon
