Adhesion study for polymer/polymer interface or polymer/metal interface in microscopic level
Is there any study on hierarchical structures for polymer/polymer interface or polymer/metal interface? and link the polymer molecular structure with fracture or adhesion study? What is the role of mechanical bonding compared to physical and chemical bonding?

Effect of polymer/metal adhesion

We've been working on the ductility of metal films on polymer substrates and found that the ductility of a metal film is sensitive to its adhesion to the polymer substrate. An experimental study is reported in:
Yong Xiang, Teng Li, Zhigang Suo, and Joost J. Vlassak, "High ductility of a metal film adherent on a polymer substrate", Applied Physics Letters,87, 161910 (2005).
A further study using finite element simulation is reported in:
Teng Li, Z. Suo, Ductility of thin metal films on polymer substrates modulated by interfacial adhesion, International Journal of Solids and Structures, Volume 44, Issue 6, 15 March 2007, Pages 1696-1705.

it was a pity that I didn't get chance to talk to you at ECTC. I tried to catch you up later, but was not able to find you. I though you did an excellent job in your presentation. Zhigang already told me that you are very good at your presentation. When I listend to your presentation, I couldn't help linking you to your advisor Dr. Suo - looks like an exact replica of Dr. Suo - Jr. Dr. Suo.

P. G. de Gennes, a French Nobel Laureate, did a great work on polymer fracture and adhesion from physical and chemical view. H.R. Brown, A.N. Gent and C.Y.Hui are also expert on this topic. I want to give you some of their papers, but I do not know how to post them. Otherwise, I can mail them to you if you need.
