Postdoctoral Research Associate in Sensorimotor Control at the University of Colorado Boulder

The Neuromechanics Lab at the University of Colorado Boulder, in conjunction with Northwestern University and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on a new research project investigating motor control in a neuroeconomic framework. The project will focus on the role of risk and the subjective valuation of reward in sensorimotor decision-making and control. Candidates will take part in computational modeling of motor control, and the design and supervision of psychophysical experiments.

This NSF funded project is a collaboration between Dr. Alaa Ahmed (Boulder) and Dr. Max Berniker (Northwestern). Research will be based in Boulder. The lab uses state of the art equipment and innovative experimental and computational approaches to address questions that are relevant to our understanding of how the brain controls movement.

Interested candidates should have recently obtained a Ph.D. in biomedical or mechanical engineering, physiology, kinesiology, neuroscience, or a related discipline. Programming experience (Matlab, C) is critical. Research experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: control theory and optimal control, motion analysis, force-plates, electromyography, and metabolic cost. Candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills.

The position is initially a one-year appointment with possible extension to up to 2 additional years commensurate with performance and funding.

The University of Colorado Boulder is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to building a diverse workforce. We encourage applications from women, racial and ethnic minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. A letter of interest, Curriculum Vitae and the names, telephone numbers and email addresses of three references should be emailed to: Alaa Ahmed ( For more information, see lab website:
