The Dept of Eng Sci at Uppsala University is looking for a project worker in structural modeling of the 17th century Vasa Ship

The Swedish
17th century Vasa ship is unique in its kind and of high cultural
and historical interest. Therefore, interdisciplinary research teams are
constantly busy to keep the slowly degrading and deforming warship in good
geometrical shape. Initiated in 2012, the latest research project aims to
investigate creep in the Vasa ship and to develop a new support system for
improved dimensional stability. For this purpose a finite element model will be
created to assess the effect of varying geometrical parameters and material
properties. One of the key aspects is the influence of the joints of the ship
on the global deformation.

We are now
looking for a person with experience in finite element modeling and mesh
construction. Additional knowledge on modeling creep and anisotropic material
behavior would be well appreciated. The successful candidate holds a Master or
PhD degree in solid mechanics/related area or comparable experience. For an
applicant with a PhD degree the project position can be upgraded to a
post-doctoral position. The duration of the position is limited to 12 months
with possibility of extension.

The
Division of Applied Mechanics offers a cross-disciplinary research environment
with senior researchers in e.g. computational mechanics, experimental
micromechanics and composite materials, located in the Ångström Laboratory,
which comprises a wide range of research activities in materials science.
