Damping matrix in FEM.....

Dear All,

I have make a problem by using FEM to get stress and disp of 2D plate  under dynamic loading (Heaviside loading...). I have know the relation between damping and mass and stiffness such as

                                                    [C] = alpha [M] + beta [K]

                                          or only [C] = alpha [M]

Please give me your comments about that, and how to chose the cofficients alpha or beta...

Thank you!

Hi Chau,

Alpha and beta are calculated based on frequency ranges. Convert the above expression interms of frequncy and damping ratio. At two frequencies, you need to know the damping ratios. If you know these, you will end up with two simultaneous algebraic equations in terms of alpha and beta. Then solve for them.

Dear all

How to model the multifunctional composite..which has especially a battery embedded in the structure? What can be the modification compared to that of the smart structure...? Can somebody please explain..?
