Multiscale characterization of friction and fracture in heterogeneous systems: fundamentals and applications

Explanation: http://mmfgm2014.org/node/24

Fracture and friction are fascinating nonlinear, and often dynamic,
phenomena occurring on many scales. In practice, understanding friction
and fracture is of vital importance to many engineering, biological,
and geophysical applications.
This session solicits contributions in all fields related to multiscale
characterization of these processes in heterogeneous media. Possible
topics may include, but are not limited to, (1) multiscale experimental
investigations of friction and fracture toughness,
(2) constitutive modeling appropriate for modeling friction and
adhesion at the microscale, and (3) multiscale computational modeling of
cohesive fracture, and (4) multiscale material design for increased
toughness and reduced frictional losses. Authors are encouraged to
present their most recent contributions in these fields.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
