Simpleware Case Study: Reconstructing a Hyaenodon Fossil from Micro-CT

We recently uploaded a new case study to our website on reconstructing a hyaenodon fossil from micro-CT. This project saw researchers in Japan scan fragments of the jaw and teeth hyaenodon, a prehistoric mammal - data from micro-CT was imported to Simpleware ScanIP for visualisation, segmentation and smoothing. An STL file with conforming interfaces and watertight triangulations was generated and exported to a 3D printing process. The final model was then scaled up and separated into two interlocking parts, which are on display in a Japanese museum, allowing visitors to better understand the anatomy of a prehistoric creature.
