Assistant / Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK

The School of Engineering and Physical Sciences seeks to make two or more academic appointments to extend and enhance one or more of the core research elements in the Institute of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering (IMPEE).

The successful candidates will contribute to research and undertake teaching and related activities at the core of chemical engineering or mechanical engineering. Applications are welcomed from enthusiastic individuals who are highly motivated with a demonstrable expertise in their chosen field. We are particularly keen to hear from those with core research and teaching interests that contribute to one or more of the following research areas:

  • Biomechanical and biomedical engineering and life science/engineering interface research activities, including work on bio-processing and bio-separation.
  • Oil and gas engineering with interests related to upstream production and downstream refining. Research interests would ideally be related to experimental or modelling of multiphase flow, thermal processes for energy and carbon conversions with applications to the gas and oil sector.
  • Carbon dioxide capture, transport, storage and utilisation with interest in the experimental and theoretical development of novel materials, reactive flow in porous networks, as well as process intensification and control.

We are seeking people with a record that will demonstrate they can become a leading national and international researcher in their chosen field. The candidate is expected to have a first degree in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering (or closely related discipline), a PhD in one of the areas of interest to us and a track record of publications in internationally recognised journals. It is desirable, but not essential, to have a track record of securing external research funding.

The posts will be an open-ended position within the School and based primarily at our Riccarton Campus. Successful candidates may be required to work at one of our international sites.

For informal enquiries contact Prof Mercedes Maroto-Valer, Head of Institute of Mechanical, Chemical and Energy Engineering at M.Maroto-Valer@hw.ac.uk.
