http://recruitment.csiro.au/asp/job_details.asp?RefNo=2007%2F661
CSIRO Petroleum (www.csiro.au/org/cpr.html) is an independent supplier of
R&D to Australia's oil and gas industries. Research covers the development
of oil and gas resources, from exploration to production. The Division seeks to
employ a Post Doctoral Fellow within the Hydraulic Fracturing group, which is
based in Melbourne, Australia. The Post Doctoral Fellow will be required
to work on a project to develop a new capability in hydraulic fracture
monitoring and to investigate the effect of scale on the fracture toughness of
rocks. We are seeking a flexible individual with skills in the areas of
geophysical methods, inverse problems, and rock/fracture/fluid mechanics.
The appointee would be engaged in development, including field deployment,
of a novel downhole geophysical method for monitoring the geometry of hydraulic
fractures. Through this development, the individual would have the opportunity
to participate in several laboratory and field projects including optimization
of the preconditioning of an ore body for block cave mining or in situ leaching
and investigation of the size-effect in rock fracture. Specific requirements
include:
- Working with experienced
technicians to construct a novel downhole instrument. - Developing a method of
analysis based on an appropriate inverse problem. - Computer programming in
MATLAB, FORTRAN, LabVIEW, and/or other suitable tools for data acquisition
and analysis. - Collaborating with industry
partners in the deployment of new technology and securing ongoing research
funds. - Communicating results in
peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and seminars.
