PhD Studentship Available in the University of Liverpool, UK
A PhD studentship funded by DTA of EPSRC is available immediately for a UK/EU student to carry out research on computational fracture mechanics. The potential research areas include (but not limited to): (1) dynamic crack propagation modeling in concrete structures using the newly-developed scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM); (2) development and application of the SBFEM in crack growth modeling of functionally graded materials; and (3) development of a crack growth criterion in elastoplastic materials and modeling using finite element method. Tuition fee and a living allowance £13,000-17000 per year will be provided for 3.5 years. The minimum qualification for the candidates is a 2:1 degree in engineering disciplines, although those with MSc/MEng/MPhil will be given priority. Candidates may send a detailed CV with full transcripts, a statement of research interests and two reference letters to Dr Z Yang for consideration. The successful candidate is expected to start on 1st October 2007 and will be jointly supervised by Dr Z Yang and Prof SG Millard.
