Numerical analysis on friction pads - script analysis

Angela Lemos's picture

Hello there. My name is Angela and I am a civil engineering student finishing my master thesis. The subject of my thesis is numerical simulation of a friction pad which is subjected to several cycles of 30 mm amplitude deformation (allowed due to the existance of slotted holes). I have to report the frictional behavior of the specimen and for that I have experimental Data. The variation of the friction coefficient can be due to wearing of the plates and, consequently, loss of preload (which was not measured experimentally) and also some strain hardening of the asperities, ...

However in Abaqus software it is not possible to model directly these behaviours and therefore I will have to introduce the variation of the friction coeffient by using interaction properties variations. The ideal was to model friction coefficient variation with reference to the total energy dissipated. However, to do so, I will have to modify the script. Do you think there is any other way to do this?? Subroutines FRIC and VFRIC can only model the friction coefficient variations with reference to pressure, slip rate and temperature Data.

If using the script I should:

1st: run an input file with the initial friction coefficient (consider an amplitude of 30mm);

2nd: open output database and extract the energy dissipated;

3rd: Introduce a function (friction coefficient=f (Ediss));

4th: Modify the input file by changing the friction coefficient,

5th: run the model again and obtain the cumulated energy dissipated (consider an amplitude of -30 mm )->calculate the new friction coefficient

6th:rerun the new input file, ..

(at the end I wanted the behaviour for the all model (10 cycles - 20 semi-cycles with amplitude equal to 30/-30 mm )

However, I have never worked with Abaqus scripts. I am not sure this is possible to realize, and if it is, what are the main methods I should use ?

I am sorry for the big text.
