The International Research Training Group IRTG 1627/2 – ViVaCE “Virtual Materials and their Validation”: German-French School of Computational Engineering at Leibniz Universität Hannover invites applications for

PhD Positions in Virtual Testing of Materials and Structures (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100%) (reference number 75)

 

The International Research Training Group provides a forum for research and development of newest methods related to computational technologies, virtual testing and validation of heterogeneous and composite materials. Details about the research and PhD topics of the vacant positions (projects C6 and C7), “Material Property Characterization for the Analysis of Composite Bolted Joints Using a Multi-scale Approach” (project C6) and “A Combined Asymptotic-multi-scale Approach for Compressive Failure Analysis of Composites” (project C7) can be found at

Successful candidates will be responsible for developing the theoretical framework as well as related algorithms of their respective PhD topics and implement these in finite element software.
The position is initially for three years.

Requirements
Applicants should have a diploma or masters degree in engineering or applied mathematics. A strong background in nonlinear continuum mechanics and the finite element method is an advantage. Due to the fact that the International Research Training Group is a joint project with the LMT of ENS Cachan
(http://www.lmt.ens-cachan.fr). Applicants will have a stay at LMT in Cachan (France) for a period of 6 months during their PhD work.
