PhD positions in mechanics of advanced materials at the University of Minnesota

PhD positions in the broad area of mechanics of advanced materials are available in the group of Prof. Stefano Gonella (http://personal.cege.umn.edu/~gonella/) at the University of Minnesota.

Some of the current topics of interest are: 1) Mechanics of nonlinear metamaterials and phononic crystals, including soft architected materials and nonlinear lattices; 2) Tunable and programmable metamaterial systems incorporating active and functional materials; 3) Design of metamaterial concepts involving notions of topology, symmetry and disorder.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and creative individual with solid foundations in mechanics and/or physics, coding experience and strong communication skills.
