Fellowships (3 year) available in computational mechanics of composite materials

Expressions of interest are invited for applicants interested in applying for a 3 year post-doctoral fellowship in the area of computational mechanics of composite materials.

The fellowships are funded through the Career-FIT programme (www.horizon2020.ie/career-fit)  under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Co-funding programme and the successful candidate will be based at the Irish Composites Centre (www.icomp.ie) at the University of Limerick, Ireland. The fellowship will include a secondment of between six and twelve months’ at an Irish company working in the area of Composite Materials.

The area to be studied will be agreed following discussion with the applicant and the host company but is expected to be on one of the following topics:

Micromechanics studies of carbon fibre composite materials and investigation of length scale effects in prediction of crack initiation and growth.

Development of a fracture/damage mechanics based approach to failure assessment in large carbon fibre composite structures.

Interested candidates should in the first place send a CV to Professor Noel O'Dowd, noel.odowd@ul.ie. The application will be prepared jointly and submitted to Enterprise Ireland by March 31st 2017. The awarded Fellowships will run for 3 years from February 2018 (or soon thereafter). Annual salary will be between €55k and €60k.
