2017 Thomas J.R. Hughes Young Investigator Award - Professor José Andrade
The Executive Committee of the ASME Applied Mechanics Division is pleased to announce and congratulate Professor José Andrade, George W. Housner Professor of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, California Institute of Technology, as the recipient of the 2017 Thomas J. R. Hughes Young Investigator Award. This award, which includes a medal, a plaque, and an honorarium, will be presented at the AMD Honors and Awards Banquet, tentatively scheduled on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, during the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, to be held in Tampa, Florida, November 3-9, 2017.
The Young Investigator Award was established in 1998 and renamed the Thomas J.R. Hughes Young Investigator Award in 2008. The Award recognizes special achievements in Applied Mechanics for researchers under the age of 41.
Professor Andrade received this award for seminar research contributing to the development of fundamental understanding of the multiscale and multiphysics behavior of porous media, with special application to geological and engineered infrastructure materials.
