Job Title: Research Scientist in Intelligent Automation

Job Description and Responsibilities

At Schlumberger-Doll Research (SDR) Center, Cambridge MA, the robotics department is developing cutting-edge technology for the automation of oil and gas applications. We are looking for enthusiastic PhD candidates specializing in physics-based and data-driven simulation of mechanical/fluid/thermal processes to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will closely collaborate with experienced Schlumberger scientists and product development teams to design, develop, simulate and test algorithms and software prototypes against real-world oilfield environments. Taking advantage of the vibrant Boston innovation ecosystem, he/she will participate in strategic engagements with academic research institutions and worldwide industry partners.

 

Qualifications

  • PhD in mechanical, aerospace engineering or related field with research emphasis on control, automation, data analytics and multiscale simulations
  • Knowledge on Linux system and machine learning methods such as Bayesian inference and uncertainty modeling
  • Demonstrated proficiency with programming languages C++ and Python
  • Working knowledge of developing physics-based and data-driven models
  • Working knowledge of simulation software such as MATLAB, Mathematica, Robot simulation software, ABAQUS and ANSYS/Fluent
  • Knowledge on mechanics of materials, stress analysis, heat transfer and manufacturing processes is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and communication skills
