Two positions for PhD or M.A.Sc in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia

Two positions for PhD or M.A.Sc in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) are open for applicants. The positions are in the field of:

 

1-   Development of materials with rich microstructures including gradient nano-grained materials in lightweight metals. 

2-   Development of Multiscale & Multiphysics techniques for modeling materials at the nanoscale including ab-initio techniques and molecular dynamics. 

 

Ideal candidates for position 1 would have expertise in machining and manufacturing of materials, knowledge of mechanics of materials, Finite Element Method modeling, familiar with HR-TEM, EBSD, etc. 

 

Ideal candidates for position 2 would have expertise in molecular dynamics, including use of LAMMPS and other MD codes, ab-initio techniques such as Quantum expresso, VASP or Siesta. In addition, candidates with programming skills in C/C++and other languages are highly encouraged to apply.

 

Qualified students will be provided with full financial support and trained to do independent researchers.
