ASME IMECE2008 Symposium on Multifunctional Materials and Material Systems

The ASME Multifunctional Materials Technical Committee of the Materials Division is organizing a symposium on Multifunctional Materials and Material Systems at IMECE2008 to be held in Boston, MA during Oct. 31-Nov. 6, 2008.

Abstract submission deadline: March 3, 2008

To submit your abstracts to this symposium, select Track 12 Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Fluids and Topic 12-26. At the end of the abstract, you can also indicate which subtopic you would like to contribute to.

Symposium Description:

Multifunctional materials are a class of materials that combine multiple functions including mechanical, electronic, optical, and magnetic functions, and are capable of exhibiting diverse physical responses when subjected to various external conditions. Multifunctional materials and material systems are at the forefront of current science and technology and are expected to bring important breakthroughs in various technological fields. List of the subtopics and organizers are as following

  • Nanostructured Materials

Xi Chen, Columbia University; Jun Lou, Rice University

    • Bio-inspired Materials and Structures

Zhenhai Xia, University of Akron; Seyed Allameh, Northern Kentucky University

    • Materials for Energy Applications

Junhong Chen, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Bingqing Wei, University of Delaware

    • Multifunctional Nanocomposites

Zoubeida Ounaies, Texas A&M University; Karla Mossi, Virginia Commonwealth University

        • Smart Materials and Structures

Lorenzo Valdevit, University of California, Irvine

        • Creep and Fatigue of Multifunctional Structural Materials

Mike Kassner, University of Southern California
