School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University

The Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences seeks highly qualified applicants for a post-doctoral research position in experimental materials science.  The successful candidate will participate in a project to design an apparatus for high-temperature calorimetry on nanoscale quantities of materials. This apparatus will be used to study phase transformations in complex ternary and quaternary materials systems.

Qualifications:

  1. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related area is required.
  2. A working knowledge in one or more of the areas of vacuum technology, high-temperature design, silicon micromachining, data acquisition. Experience in several of these areas is preferred.
  3. Experience in thermal modeling with ABAQUS or another FEM code is desirable.
  4. Experience with materials characterization tools such as TEM, XRD, EDS, etc.. is desirable.

Funding for this position is available immediately for a period of one year and may be renewed thereafter. Review of applications will begin immediately and wil continue until the position is filled. Interested applicants should send a CV with a cover letter, the names of at least three references and a one-page description documenting their experience in the qualification areas 2-4 listed above.
