I have read a slide of Prof. Suo, he mentioned the large deformation in gels. Could you give some applications of this phenomenon in practice?

In the introduction of the following paper, we cited some well known applications.

Wei Hong, Xuanhe Zhao, Jinxiong Zhou and Zhigang Suo,A theory of coupled diffusion and large deformation in polymeric gels. Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids 56, 1779-1793 (2008).

An application less well known among academics is swellable elastomers used to seal segaments of oil wells.
