open issues in interface mechanical modeling

Hi everyone!

I'm brand new of this website, but I'm already very excited about it - it's really helpful.

So I thought to address to you guys a burning question I'm facing, after having downloaded and scanned a ton of papers in the past few weeks. WHAT WOULD YOU INDICATE AS THE MOST BURNING ISSUES TO BE SOLVED IN MECHANICAL MODELING OF INTERFACES? I know this is probably too general, but...it seems to me that so many different topics have already been studied. I would like to choose a new research topic in this area, but it's hard to tell what is really likely to be a productive stream.
