Northwestern University, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)and Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) jointly seek an outstanding individual in the area of mechanics for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor.  The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, internationally-recognized research program, teach graduate- and undergraduate-level courses, and supervise graduate research.  Both CEE and ME
Department
s have highly respected graduate programs in mechanics.  Information on the departments can be found at http://www.civil.northwestern.edu and http://www.mech.northwestern.edu.  The candidate will also be a member of the Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (TAM) group, an interdisciplinary, interdepartmental degree granting program (http://www.tam.northwestern.edu).

Applicants should have an earned doctorate in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or in a relevant engineering or science discipline. Applicants should have expertise in fundamental and applied mechanics research, with special interest in application to energy related research.  Synergy with design and sustainability is also desirable.
