Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in "The influence of pre-stress on wave propagation in viscoelastomeric composites"

WilliamJParnell's picture

This position (tenable for up to three years and available from July 2010) is an opportunity to work on the EPSRC funded project entitled "The influence of nonlinear pre-stress on wave propagation through viscoelastic composites". The appointee will work with Dr. William J Parnell and Prof. I. David Abrahams in the School of Mathematics, University of Manchester, UK. The project will involve both theoretical and computational modelling of the propagation of elastic waves through nonlinearly pre-stressed inhomogeneous materials. Such models will therefore require the application of relevant mathematical techniques together with implementation of computational models. The precise responsibilities of the appointee will depend upon interests and previous experience.

This position will involve interaction with industrial partners who are funding various postgraduate positions in association with this project and therefore the appointed individual will work in a research team whose aim is to develop hybrid theoretical/computational models in order to understand the complicated constitutive behaviour of various nonlinear inhomogeneous viscoelastomeric materials. The incremental response of such materials given some initial pre-stress is of specific interest.

For further details, further particulars and information about how to apply for this position, please see:
