Dear imechanicans,

We are delighted to inform you that the first installment of NEW.Mech (The New England
Workshop on the Mechanics of Materials and Structures)  will be held at
Harvard University on September 25th, 2010. You will find more detailed
information on the workshop's website:

<http://newmech.mit.edu>

NEW.Mech will be a one-day workshop that aims to bring together the New England
Mechanics community with an interest in exploring new directions on the
mechanics of soft materials and structures and share the latest
advancements in the field. We hope that this will become a recurring annual event of relevance in our mechanics calendar.

The workshop will consist of four plenary invited talks, a number of
contributed short talks (~5-min) and an extended poster session. We
invite you to submit titles and abstracts for the 5-min contributed talks and posters through the registration page:

<http://newmech.mit.edu/newmech_registration.php >

Even if you do not yet have a tentative Title/Abstract, please still
register as it will allow us to better plan for numbers in advance. The
<Participants> page will be updated on a regular
basis and further information and guidelines will be sent closer to the
event.

The invited speakers for this year are:

Narayanan Menon (University of Massachusetts at Amherst)

- Huajian Gao (Brown University)

Corey O'Hern (Yale University)

- Mary Boyce (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

Please contact any of the organizers if you have any questions regarding this workshop.

We encourage you to forward this announcement to any colleagues you think may also be interested in participating as well as passing it onto the members of your own research groupsWe hope you will participate and bring your group along.

With wishes of a productive and relaxing summer, see you on September 25th!

The organizers,

Katia Bertoldi (Harvard University)

Ken Kamrin (Harvard University)

Ashkan Vaziri (Northeastern University)

Pedro Reis (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

I've visited the web site, but being not an expert of soft materials, I don't understand exactl what will the theme be.  Maybe it would help if you ask your speakers to give some titles.

Thanks mike
