The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in theoretical, computational, and/or experimental research in the general area of Structural Engineering and Mechanics effective September 1, 2011.  The appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level, although exceptional applicants at higher ranks will be given serious consideration.

We are seeking an outstanding candidate to join a vibrant and growing department of more than 20 faculty members and 90 full-time graduate students (50 of which are PhD students).  The Department maintains extensive on-site high-performance computing facilities, while also fostering collaborations with the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (www.psc.edu), a resource provider in the Teragrid, and is home to the Watkins-Haggart Structural Engineering Laboratory, the Pavement Mechanics and Materials Laboratory and the Laboratory for NDE and SHM Studies.  The successful applicant will be expected to develop and sustain a recognized research program within their area of expertise and contribute to the teaching mission of the graduate and undergraduate programs. Candidates interested in collaborative and interdisciplinary research within the department and/or other faculty in related focus areas in the Swanson School of Engineering, such as the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation (MCSI) (www.mascarocenter.pitt.edu), are especially encouraged to apply.  Applicants are encouraged to review the departmental website at www.engr.pitt.edu/civil for additional information.

An earned doctorate in civil engineering or a closely related field is required.  Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, a detailed resume, statements describing teaching and research interests, copies of three representative publications, and the names and contact information for at least three references, all in a single PDF file, to SEMsearch2010@engr.pitt.edu.

Applications will be considered beginning December 15, 2010 and continue until the position is filled.  The University of Pittsburgh is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer.
