"Michigan Nano Computational Cluster” (MNC2)

The “Michigan Nano Computational Cluster” (MNC2) consists of 14 nodes.
Each compute node contains a hexa-core Intel Xeon X5660 processor
running at 2.66 GHz, 24 GB of memory. MNC2 contains 168 processing cores
linked with Gigabit ethernet, 12 TB of disk space.

MNC2 currently hosts simulation tools for micro/nanoscale systems
including codes for first principles calculation, photonic devices,
molecular dynamics, multiphysics, and multiscale modeling.

The Cluster is free for use. Researchers interested in using the cluster,

Webinar: How Can IntelliSuite v8.7 Benefit MEMS Research and Teaching

IntelliSuite was the first MEMS-specific CAD tool and has been under
development for over 20 years.  In this free webinar, understand how this
industry-standard software can help MEMS designers, process engineers,
and professors save time and costs in the development cycle, share their
designs with others, and teach students about MEMS. The webinar will
cover: process development using virtual fabrication tools, etch recipe
development using process simulators, design rule checking and
cross-sectioning tools for MEMS layout, design exploration and
optimization using behavioral and parametric modeling, recent
developments in automated meshing algorithms, discussion of coupled
FEM-BEM solvers for MEMS multiphysics analysis, linking MEMS models to

3rd International Conference on IMPACT LOADING OF LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURES

Dear Collegues,

On behalf of the International Scientific Committee, I am pleased to inform you of the 3rd International Conference on IMPACT LOADING OF LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURES (ILLS 2011) taking place in  Valenciennes, France, June 28th-July 1st, 2011: http://ills2011.org

WOM 2011 - 18th International Conference on Wear of Materials, Philadelphia, USA - Call for stand alone posters.

Submissions are now closed for oral presentations to WOM 2011, however, contributions are invited for stand-alone posters. WOM 2011 is to take place in Philadelphia, USA - April 3-7 next year.  It will focus on both the fundamental and applied aspects of wear and friction of materials at the macro-, micro- and nano-scale. Special emphasis will be placed on wear issues in harsh environments, energy conversion, and debris particle generation and its impact on the environment.

Postdoctoral Position in Mesoscale Mechanics

I have one postdoctoral position, available immediately, in the general area of mesoscale modeling. The specific interest is in the development of computationally tractable models that incorporate the appropriate lengthscales and that can be used for microstructural design. The work is in conjunction with research groups involved in the development of materials for impact applications. Examples of topics of interest include the processes of dynamic failure in specific microstructures, and the development of physics-based models that account for grain size, grain size distribution, grain rotation and texture. If you are interested, please send me (ramesh@jhu.edu)
your CV and the names of at least two references. Women and minorities

Two postdoctoral positions available at Johns Hopkins University

I am looking for two postdocs in the analytical and computational modeling areas. One position will focus on the theoretical and computational modeling of microstructure-modulated failure processes, with an emphasis on nanocrystalline materials. The other will focus on hypervelocity impact fragmentation problems, including planetary scale impact and fragmentation. The latter position is available immediately, and the former is available as of June 1, 2008.
