Hello everyone,

Anisotropic plasticity and hyperelasticity in Abaqus

I am trying to model a polymer that has been processed in such a way that it has oriented (orthotropic) material properties and undergoes very high strains (>100%) before break.

Sliding In Abaqus

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

Hello everybody.

I am trying to use abaqus software to model the sliding of a metallic pile inside a metallic sleeve. I have tried doing this with the translator connector, but I always get the message that 2 regions in the model are not connected. Can anybody help me with some hints as to how to use the connector, or if there are any other ways to model the sliding?

Stress-Strain curve for Concrete Damaged Plasticity in Abaqus

Hello,

I am using Concrete Damaged Plasticity model. My parameters are correct but I am not able to get the desired stress-strain curve for my model.

Can anyone help me with how do I plot the stress strain curve for it (Nominal Stress vs Strain, Reaction force vs displacement or anything else)?

I want to know the exact procedure to do it.

Thanks in advance.

how to find undex charge property parameters?

hi

i need to define bubble load in ABAQUS.

but there is some paramaters as explosion charge properties should be defined.

for example Charge material constant, K.  or  Ratio of specific heats for gas  or   Density of charge material.

how can i find these properties for any exlposion charge eg. TNT ?

i appreciate your help

Need Help for Abaqus/CAE ( best method for fatigue test for tensile test for a number of cycle)

Dear friends, i current doing a project work on testing fatigue life of superelastic nitinol. And since i am very new in using abaqus for testing the simulation, i seeking help from people around here to ask for method to test the work. My objective is to set a maximum elongation for 1%-6% of elongation and test for 40,000 cycle if it can work for this amount of cycle..

i Hope anyone can help me as i need to finish this project in order to graduate and i didnt get any single help from regarding this software from my side..

ABAQUS-cohesive elements in compression

Hi all,

Abaqus - warning message: c3d4h elements will enforce vol .... use *tie

Dear iMechanica-User,

i habe  a general question according to Abaqus. I'm dealing with an biom. model of the breast and i  created the mesh with the toolbox iso2mesh (matlab) / c3d4h elements - each element has it's own youngs modulusand is therefore defined as singel solid section (per element), but all elements use the same node-list. Simulation is done by compression of the breast using two plates.

So here is the problem: i always get the warning message:

Convergence problems in Abaqus-Fortran

Hi mechanicians:

I decided to post because I have an inconvenience that is not shown in other posts.

I am working in the Abaqus - Fortran environment in a thermal analysis. After implementing a new procedure (which actually works), the .sta file shows me that it has problems in its unique step, more or less in the 60th iteration (it is supposed to get until 500). Twenty iterations after that gets into interruptions because the code cannot converge.

With these lines it is easier to understand my point:

how to compute cavitation effect by ABAQUS

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

hi

i need to simulate the "bulk" and "local" cavitation region around a structure in fluid subjected to underwater explosion.

maybe i need to calculate the negative pressure regions. but how?!

how can i define the condition and compute that cavitation effects by ABAQUS?

i appreciate your help

tnx

New SIMULIA Tech Brief: Understanding the Effects of Nonlinear Preloads on Engine System Dynamic Response using Abaqus/Standard

What do
Guitar Strings Have to do With Dynamic Response?

Tightening
guitar strings to change the sound uses the same principle as tightening head
bolts to change the dynamic response of an engine block assembly. This is
stress stiffening and it affects the dynamic response of a structure. One of
the fundamental components in assessing nonlinear static stress is stress
stiffening, but it is also the most overlooked when evaluating the steady-state
dynamic response of engine assemblies.

XFEM Location of Crack Tip

In using Abaqus 6.12 XFEM software is there a field output request that can be specified to track the location of the crack tip as a crack grows through time?

Subsea impact simulation with Abaqus

Hi every body

My thesis is about ship grounding. In this phenomenon, ship hit a rock. I can simulate this problem in Abaqus/Standard,without wave effect. But in reality there is water and waves. Can I simulate this problem with ABAQUS? Is it possible to define water(or wave) aruond ship and rock?

Electric Potential B.C. in the Dynamic/Explicit Step

Hey all,

I am trying to apply an Electric Potential B.C. to a surface. I want to use the dynamic/explicit analysis type, however, when I select that as my step type, the Electric Potential B.C. option disappears from the edit B.C. window! Is that due to a license limitation or an error I might have made in one of the definitions?

Thank you!

New SIMULIA Tech Brief: Cogging Torque Analysis of Permanent Magnet Machines using Abaqus/Standard

When designing a permanent magnet machine, one of the most fundamental and difficult goals is to reduce the cogging torque curve. The challenge in reducing the cogging torque is to also decrease the numerical noise generated by the mesh. Finite element analyses and the advanced meshing functionality that is available through Abaqus/CAE allows for a faster and more accurate prototype.

How to plot Fracture toughness vs Crack length in Abaqus for Delamination problem

I've modelled a DCB specimen and applied Boundary conditions and load... I followed the same procedures given in abaqus documentation... As expected the crack initiates and propagates along the interface... I can get the Resultant force vs displacement plot from the analysis.. But i dont know how to plot the fracture toughness vs crack length plot in ABAQUS..

Please help me... Your suggestion would really help me a lot..

How to find material parameters for Abaqus PDA

The PDA model implemented in Abaus is an implementation of the idea of the cohesive zone model (CZM), which is quite popular for the analysis of delaminations, but PDA is for intralaminar damage. The problem my group faced when trying to use PDA was "where do we get the material parameters?"  We asked around in blogs and such but could not find a definitive answer. So, we went to work and came up with a methodology that may serve you.

New book: FEA of composites using Abaqus

New textbook includes an explanation of the concepts involved in the detailed analysis of composites, a sound explanation of the mechanics needed to translate those concepts into a mathematical representation of the physical reality, and a detailed explanation of the solution of the resulting boundary value problems by using commercial Finite Element Analysis software such as Abaqus.

ABAQUS set a limit time for the esecution of a job

hello,

as title says, does anyone knows how to fix a limit to the time that an abaqus job takes to be calculated.

this is because i am running several jobs sequentially, and i want to set that for instance if some job takes too much time, just stop it and go to the next one.

thank you a lot.

Inaccurate UMAT result in SMP model

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

Hello:

I have written a UMAT subroutine similar to the one shown in abaqus 6.11 subroutine manual 1.1.40 with a slight differences indicative of the material's rheological model.
my expanded isotropic model looks like:
sigma_x - sigmav_x/3 + vbar*sigma_dot_x + kappa*sigma_dot_x =
lambda*eplv + 2*mu*epl_x + lamdabar*eplv_dot_x +2*mubar*epl_x

Abaqus - Job aborts reporting that it can't change the current working directory.

Hello,

I have an Abaqus 6.12-3 installed on a Windows 8 64-bit system.
Everything works smoothly. I am easily able to take control of the CAE
and model, define loads, steps, sections and jobs. The problem is while
running the jobs. The job aborts splashing an error "Unable to change
the current working directory to
C:\Users\ANIABU~1\AppData\Local\Temp\Ani Abu_I-beam_3876." This happens
with all the jobs. Rarely does the job complete successfully, but I am
unable to understand the underlying procedure. I did not request any
