abaqus - ball indentation- high value of stress

Dear all,

I have modeled a cyclic ball indentation problem in
Abaqus. The sphere has been modeled as axisymmetric rigid surface while
the plate is axisymmetric deformable. The material data fed in for the
plate has been obtained from low cycle fatigue experiments and the
combined hardening model using half-cycle has beem employed.

i m trying to do thermal analysis of rapid manufacturing process called LENS in abaqus(64-bit). Based on thermal results(thermal odb), i m doing a stress analysis. In order to complete a 90 step analysis along with DFLUX subroutine using quadritic (DC3D20) elements (approx 30000 elements), it takes nearly 30 hours(intel core i-7 processor and 6Gb of RAM) and more than 7 days to complete stress analysis. 13-14% of the CPU usage is observed duing stress analysis. is there any way to enhance the performance?? because its using only 13% of CPU though i have 7 processors.

Hydrostatic pressure stress element removal criterion in Abaqus.

Hi all,

Recently  i tried  Hydrostatic pressure stress element removal criterion in Abaqus(19.2.8 Dynamic failure models in the 6.9 manual) . I used 75 Mpa as cut-off pressure stress and after which the material fails. During post - processing i tried to measure the pressure stress in an element that failed but the element did not fail at 75 Mpa and i checked few other elements, also i found the same thing none of them failed at 75 Mpa. What could be the possible reason?

Thanks

Determining multiple contact pairs in Abaqus explicit

Hello,

I want to know that is there a novel way of defining several two dimensional contact pairs in Abaqus/Explicit. I know that abaqus has the capability of defining a general contact but it is restricted only to Abaqus standard and 3D Abaqus explicit problems.

I have a 2D plane strain problem where I have to specify more than 1000 contact pairs in the assembly between similar instances of the same part. Is there a fortran subroutine that could be used to determine so many contact pairs?

Thanks,

Tuhin

Writing User Subroutines with ABAQUS

Dear All,

I think that many students are looking for some tutorials about writing a UMAT in ABAQUS.

You can find a comprehensive tutorial for elastic problems.

Viscoelastic material model in abaqus-am i taking the correvt approach

Hi all,

I have been trying to gain an understanding of representing a viscoelastic material in abaqus. To do this i have been trying to represent polypropylene using data obtained from creep curves found in literature (attached). To now what i have been doing is the following: Note i am using Abaqus 6.7

In material manager: selecting Elastic-inputting Instantaneous Youngs Modulus, E, Poissons, v, (E=1.8GPa, v=0.4) and setting the moduli time scale to instantaneous. And Viscoelastic-Domain:Time, Time=Creep Test data and inputting Shear Test Data

frequency responce- how to track natural frequency of the beam using Abaqus?

frequency responce- how to track natural frequency of the beam using Abaqus? may i have the example of doing that? and the details that need to be considered.

Thanks.

Modeling heat transfer involving a phase change (ice to water) using Abaqus

I'm modeling the transient heat transfer of a cooler with an ice pack in it. How does one accurately model the phase change of the water? Here's what I've tried so far:

 1. Added latent heat property to material card. Used Latent heat = 334 kJ/kg, Solidus Temp = 0, Liquidus Temp = 0

Result: Error, Solidus and Liquidus temps cannot be equal

 2. Solidus temp = -0.01, Liquidus temp = 0.01

Result: Analysis ran, but diverged very early in the analysis.

Help with movement representation in Abaqus

Dear sirs,

I would like to seek your assistanceon using the Abaqus software  .

I am trying to study the stresses inpavement layers , by applying  movingloads caused by vehicles. However I have not been able to get a visualrepresentation of the moving load.

I would like to know how to get acycle of movement , to and fro ...over a period of years .

ABAQUS and Constitutive equation

Dear all,

I'm new to ABAQUS and I was wondering if we could have access to any constitutive equation in ABAQUS and add another stress tensor to the Cauchy stress tensor?

LOW-CYCLE FATIGUE CRACK PROPAGATION IN ABAQUS USING XFEM

Hi all,

I´m traying to simulate a low-cycle fatigue crack growth in Abaqus 6.9 using xfem. My problem is to add the low cycle method to the xfem solution.

I believe that the only current option for this would be to manually
create the loading curve and to do the analysis by a brute force
method but i may not be correct in this assumption however.

Please could someone explain a brief method.

i appreciate in advance.

Cohesive material zone model and ABAQUS subroutines

Hello,

I'd like to ask if anybody knows if it is possible to use an ABAQUS usersubroutine that could vary some parameters (τmax, kn or ks etc) of the cohesive zone model of ABAQUS with the vertical pressure applied on the interface. The new ability of ABAQUS to support cohesive behaviour in contact surfaces seems very interesting and useful, however how could somebody simulate the interface under a compression - shear regime that may follow a Mohr-Coulomb type behaviour?

Modeling grain boundaries using FEM (Abaqus)

Hi,

I would like to model a microstructure using Abaqus. My question is how to deal with the grain boundaries ? Should I use cohesive elements ? Any ideas on modeling grain boundaries using FEM will be very helpfull.

Thanks,

Section points in user elements

Dear Group,

does anyone know how section points can be defined in user-defined elements UEL ?

I am trying to program my own beam element in ABAQUS. The beam element library does not provide a beam element with temperature as a degree of freedom which would come as an asset in our application.

Beam elements feature so-called section that provide the spatial resolution through the thickness. I cannot find any clue how this can be programmed. ABAQUS standard elements give results for strain, stress and the like at these section points.

A question on UMAT implementation of non-local theory

Hi, friends,

Now, I am implementing the non-local continuum theory in ABAQUS through UMAT programming.

Unfortunately, I have been obstacled by the following question:

On one hand, in non-local continuum theory, the non-local strain of every particular integration point is determined by the global strain field all over the specimen.

How to represent a "bird" in ABAQUS

Dear all,

I will model a bird to impact a shell at high velocity by ABAQUS.  I decide to model the "bird" by ALE mesh and referred by EOS equation.

However, most simulation works are done by LS-Dyna. Do anyone know how to determine the parameters in ABAQUS for the "bird" in EOS equation?

   All suggestions are welcome.

   Thanks.

Jason,

Shape memory alloy material models including plasticity implemented in ABAQUS

I am working with shape memory alloys (nitinol), and am in that respect investigating fracture behaviour of NiTi, using, among other things, simulations in ABAQUS. ABAQUS doesn't have a material model that include plasticity unless you pay for it. I am wondering if anyone have implemented either of the following models as a UMAT, and if you are willing to share the code with me.

The models I am interested in are:

Help in abaqus modelling

Hi all,

I am currently working on my Masters thesis which is the analysis of sandwich structures subjected to blast loading using Abaqus. Can someone suggest some references which would  explain me how to apply blast loading using abaqus.

There is an example problem of submarine in the abaqus user's manual which includes the blast loading. But they've only given the inp file for that.

So can someone also tell me how to generate .cae file from .inp file in abaqus.

Best Regards,
