Problem with abaqus : shell-solid assembly
Submitted by alxmk on Sun, 2013-03-10 10:33.Hello everyone !
I'm new to abaqus and have a problem with the shell-solid assembly. I want to model a shell element (plate) clamped into two solid elements (parallelograms) on its top and bottom edges.
I've tested different possibilities to do my assembly (shell-solid coupling, merging the geometry or the mesh when assembling the two elements) but none of them work. There's always a problem whis the definition of the elements' properties when I submit the job.
Does anobody have a solution ?

Need help for running UMAT of Dr. Huang's single crystal
Submitted by sfchoudhury on Mon, 2013-02-25 19:03.Hello Everyone,
I am a new member of imechanica. I have started to learn UMAT of Abaqus to model my material behavior ( Cu6Sn5, HCP) using crystal plasticity finite element model. I found Dr. Huang's single crystal UMAT to start learning UMAT and I thought that it would be a great guide to start though it is written for FCC mat. But unfortunately I was not able to run the UMAT with it's input file.
It is showing error " Too many attempts were made for this increment". I have no idea where I went wrong as I just ran the UMAT with it's own physical model. Please can anyone provide me a running UMAT of Dr. Huang ? I think there is something I need to change. Also, guideline for learning UMAT will be a great help.

Finit element Analysis of mandible bone with implant
Submitted by king_man on Fri, 2013-02-22 16:28.Hi everyone
i work on a bio mechanic project. i am going to simulate a mandible bone
with implant. at first i want to use Materialise Mimics V10 to convert Ct Scan
data of a mandible without implant to a 3D model. i thought i could edit
the exported file on the other software (Ansys or Abaqus) to add the
implant. but, exported file from mimics can not have any edit .Actually
it has not volume and i need to have a 3D solid model. please help me !

Preprocessing files for ABAQUS XFEM implementation
Submitted by jumar on Thu, 2013-02-14 20:16.Hello,
This is my first post in imechanica and i hope you can help me, im working in my finall project to obtain my MsC, im working in the simulation of crack growth in freeting fatigue, i found usefull the article post in imechanica by Eugenio Giner http://www.imechanica.org/node/4338. Im having problems with the preprocessin files, Can you help me with some information about how to create the input files? (i have some basics using ABAQUS CAE, but i dont know how to create the input files like mOXY.prn, TopNox see article)
Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad english

characteristic Length
Submitted by m0435117 on Tue, 2013-02-05 11:00.Hi
is there a way to get the characteristic length of one element? I wanna calculate xult (when the element is cracked, fracutred..).
I use the concrete damage plasticity model and after reaching the tensile strength i assume a linear softening with fracture energy.
Input are:
Young´s modulus
max. tensile strength
fracture energy
Outpu:
when do i reach xult or what is the plastic strain equivalent

reading nodal values (EFENRRTR) into a UMAT routine
Submitted by jodavies03 on Wed, 2013-01-16 11:04.Hi,
I am using the VCCT method to model crack propagation and I am finding the value of G/Gc is too large for any sensible time step (1e-25).
I am attempting to incorporate a time incrementation scheme into my UMAT which monitors EFENRRTR and modifies the time step (or PNEWDT) according to it's value.

Simulation of Hail Impact Using the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic Method in Abaqus/Explicit
Submitted by SIMULIA on Tue, 2013-01-08 18:59.Ice or hail impact is an important design consideration in the aviation, energy, and astronautics industries. Physical testing of impact scenarios can be expensive and impractical. Numerical simulations provide cost effective and convenient tools for including hail impact scenarios in the design process.
Numerically simulating high speed ice or hail impact is challenging because of the extreme deformation, fragmentation, contact, and material model complexity.

Maximum Time Step Problems in ABAQUS
Submitted by jodavies03 on Tue, 2013-01-08 17:31.Hi,
I hape a relatively simple question. I am trying to set a maxmimum time step for a job by the lines:
*Static, allsdtol=0, continue=NO
0.05, 1., 1e-25, 0.05
so I believe the maximum time step should be 0.05 giving me a minimum of 20 increments in the step in total. However the STA file below shows that the job starts at 0.05 and the appears to ignore the maximum time step command. Can anyone tell me why this occurs?
