2015 Melosh Medalist and Finalists

 

The Annual Robert J. Melosh Competition for the Best Student Paper in Finite Element Analysis was held last Friday, April 24, on the campus of Duke University.  

The winner of the 2015 Melosh Medal is Maurizio Chiaramonte, from Stanford University, for his paper The H-Version of the Method of Auxiliary Mapping for Higher Order Solutions of Crack Problems.”   

Maurizio was selected as the winner on the basis of both his written paper and his oral presentation.  The other finalists at the 2015 competition were:

2014 Melosh Medalist

Phani Motamarri, from the University of Michigan, is the 2014 Melosh Medalist for his paper "A Spectral Finite-Element Based Method For Large-Scale Quantum Mechanical Calculations Using Kohn-Sham Density Functional Theory".  Please join me in congratulating Phani!

Finalists for the 2014 Melosh Competition

Seven finalists have been identified for the 2014 Melosh Competition to be held Friday, April 25, at Duke University.  The finalists and their current institutions are:

25th Annual Melosh Competition at Duke University

The 25th Melosh Competition  for the Best Student Paper on Finite Element Analysis will be held at Duke University on April 25, 2014.  The competition has become one of the premier graduate student events in the broad area of mechanics.

2013 Melosh Medalist

Ju Liu, from the University of Texas at Austin, is the 2013 Melosh Medalist for his paper "A Thermodynamically Consistent Algorithm for Liquid-Vapor Phase Transitions in Complex Geometries".  Please join me in congratulating Ju!

 

 

2011 Melosh Medalist

Daniel Hurtado, from the California Institute of Technology, is the 2011 Melosh Medalist for the Best Student Paper in Finite Element Analysis.  Daniel won for his paper titled "Multiscale Modeling of Microcrystalline Materials".  He presented the paper on Friday, April 29, 2011, on the campus of Duke University.

Melosh Competition: 2nd Call for Abstracts

This is the second call for abstracts for the 23nd Annual Melosh Competition for the Best Student Paper on Finite Element Analysis.  The deadline for the abstracts has been extended to January 14, 2011.   Details of the competition and submission procedure can be found here

2010 Melosh Medalist

Phanish Suryanarayana, from the California Institute of Technology, is the 2010 Melosh Medalist for the Best Student Paper in Finite Element Analysis.  Phanish won for his paper titled "Non-periodic Finite-Element and Mesh-Free Formulation of Kohn-Sham Density Functional Theory".  He presented the paper on Friday, April 30, 2010, on the campus of Duke University.

The 22nd Annual Melosh Competition for the Best Student Paper on Finite Element Analysis will be held at Duke University on April 30, 2010.  The competition has become one of the premier graduate student events in the broad area of mechanics. 

Deadline Extended for 21st Annual Melosh Competition

The deadline for abstracts for the 21st Annual Melosh Competition has been extended until January 30.  All interested graduate students are encouraged to apply.

 This competition for the Best Student Paper in Finite Element Analysis will be held at Duke University on Friday, April 24, 2009.  The competition has become one of the premier graduate student events in the broad area of computational mechanics.
