Postdoctoral Position Available in United Arab Emirates on Acoustic Absorption and Vibration Damping

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available immediately in the Advanced Digital & Additive Manufacturing (ADAM) Center at the Khalifa University of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates. Applicants should demonstrate research capabilities in investigating the acoustic absorption, vibration damping, and mechanical behavior of structural systems made of architected lightweight cellular materials and composites.

PhD positions in Wave Mechanics and Metamaterials Laboratory at the Technion (Israel)

Wave Mechanics and Metamaterials Laboratory seeks candidates with strong knowledge in magnetoelasticity, wave mechanics, finite element modeling (ideally of magneto-mechanical coupling), or strong experimental background in ultrasonics or magnetism (ideally knowing how to operate an electromagnet). For more details, pls, see attached file.

Postdoc position at the University at Buffalo – SUNY (Elastic Metamaterials)

The Sound and Vibrations Lab (http://svl.eng.buffalo.edu), directed by Prof. Mostafa Nouh at the University at Buffalo – SUNY, has an opening for a postdoc position in the areas of phononics and elastic metamaterials. The position is supported by an NSF project whose main objective is to investigate the mechanics of space-time-periodic material systems operating within asymmetric, nonreciprocal, non-Hermitian, and/or frequency-selective regimes.

Phononics 2013

We cordially invite you to participate in Phononics 2013: The Second International Conference on Phononic Crystals/Metamaterials, Phonon Transport and Optomechanics – to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from June 2–7, 2013. The conference covers the following themes:

(1) phononic crystals, (2) acoustic metamaterials, (3) wave propagation in periodic structures, (4) nanoscale phonon transport, and (5) optomechanics.

Journal Club Theme of April 2012: Phononics: Structural Dynamics of Materials

Engineering structures are made out of materials and as such there is a natural hierarchy in which a material’s intrinsic properties contribute to shaping up the structure’s response. It is possible however to reverse this hierarchy and engineer materials that are made out of structures. In this case, the intrinsic properties of a material are shaped by the structural response. Such a configuration can only be realized with a repeated structure, forming an array of identical unit cells.

Multiple Open Positions for Ph.D. Candidates in Experimental/Computational Mechanics, University of South Carolina

We seek for highly motivated Ph.D. candidates in the field of 1) Acoustic metamaterials (e.g., phononic crystals), 2) Advanced composite materials, and 3) NDE/SHM, to join Advanced Structures Laboratory (http://www.me.sc.edu/research/ASL/) at the University of South Carolina. The Advanced Structures Laboratory is located in the Mechanical Engineerin Department, which is ranked 31st nationally according to National Research Council and is recently emerging due to the construction of Aerospace Cluster driven by Boeing Company and GE Aviation.
