We are looking for highly motivated PhD candidates to study the multiscale cracking in 3D printed glass-polymer composites. The main objectives of the project are to develop a multiscale numerical modeling framework for cracking in PA12/glass beads samples obtained by additive manufacturing (Selective Laser Sintering, SLS) and to combine these numerical tools with experimental 3D imaging and in-situ mechanical testing techniques to identify the models. The PhD is part of a funded national research project involving several academic institutions and an industrial partner.

Applications are invited for a PhD position in Mechanics and Manufacturing of Composites in the Department of Civil & Env. Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in solid mechanics, finite element analysis and computer programming. Prior knowledge of polymeric composites and manufacturing will be advantageous. The position will start in Fall 2017.

Expressions of interest are invited for applicants interested in applying for a 3 year post-doctoral fellowship in the area of computational mechanics of composite materials.

We have an open PhD position to study the mechano-chemical organisation of cells from a physical and mathematical point of view. Individually or collectively, cells move due to mechanical and chemical gradients and doing so they self-organise in very specific forms. Understanding the physical laws under mechano-chemical gradients can head to establish new protocols in the control of cell structures. The final goal of the project is to manipulate cells so that the morphology of cell structures can be predicted, e.g. in biological-based prosthesis.
