Finite Element software Z-set : new web page

New web page of Finite Element Analysis software Z-set is now open: http://zset-software.com/
What is Z-set

Z-set is a computational code devoted to the analysis of material and
structure behavior, involving a finite element solver and a collection
of specific tools for material parameter calibration, preprocessing and
postprocessing computations. Z-set is the result of 30 years of close collaboration between the

FEM Code for Wave Propagation Analysis

Hi every body,

I'm looking for a FEM code (Matlab, C++, Python,...) for analysis wave propagation in plates.

It would be the most kind of you to let me know how I can find it.

UMAT Multi-element Error

Hello All:

I have written a UMAT code to predict the viscoelastic behaviour within a
shape adaptive structure. I have followed similar steps used in Abaqus
subroutine manual, I have applied this UMAT to a single quad element and
it works as predicted. But when I apply it multiple elements model it
breaks down.

Is there any special command i need to put in UMAT subroutine to account
multi element analysis? I will appreciate all related comments,

Isogeometric Analysis (IGA)

The aim of this post is to give a brief introduction to the recently emerged isogeometric analysis (IGA) which was presented in the seminal paper " Hughes, T.J.R.; J.A. Cottrell, Y. Bazilevs (2005). "Isogeometric analysis: CAD, finite elements, NURBS,exact geometry and mesh refinement". Comput. Methods Appl. Mech. Engrg. (Elsevier) 194: 4135–4195." IGA refers to a computational framework in which the basis functions used to represent the geometry in CAD are used for approximating the unknown fields in FEA. In this regard, IGA also employs the well known isoparametric concept.

Abaqus - warning message: c3d4h elements will enforce vol .... use *tie

Dear iMechanica-User,

i habe  a general question according to Abaqus. I'm dealing with an biom. model of the breast and i  created the mesh with the toolbox iso2mesh (matlab) / c3d4h elements - each element has it's own youngs modulusand is therefore defined as singel solid section (per element), but all elements use the same node-list. Simulation is done by compression of the breast using two plates.

So here is the problem: i always get the warning message:

how to apply load int the form of 10 sin pi x/a sin pi y/b in ansys?

hi everyone,

please help in how to apply load in the form 10 sin pi x/a sin pi y/b for the static analysis of plate in ansys? here a and b are dimensions of plate and x=a/2, y=b/2. iam a beginner in ansys.

Key Qualifications

FEM modelling of braided composites

I am doing simulation of fiber reinforced composites, for that I have modelled a cubic REV. However , when I am constraining the opposite faces' node displacement sum to be 0 and coupling the nodes in each face in the direction perpendicular to the area, ANSYS is coming out . I have tried this on i7 processor with 8GB RAM system. I am confused if its a RAM problem or a model problem. If there are too many constraints if I apply coupling as well as constraint???

FEM versus FFT

Dear all,

In micomechanics, homogenization of heterogeneous
materials based on FEM is traditional. Homogenization based on FFT technique has been recently found (in many literatures) to have much more advantages
in term of accuracy, computational cost and resource consumption.

I am wondering why FEMs are still
widely used in education, research, and industries of
generally
computational
mechanics ?

Please could anyone help me to clarify
my question?

Thanks

PBC implementation in equilibrium equation

Hi, guys,

Do some of you know how Periodical Boundary Condition is implemented in equilibrium equation while using FEM:

div{ C:sym[grad(u)] } = 0 ,where the displacement u is periodical.

Is there any (detailed) documentation about this stuff?

Thank you very much!

Shape Memory Polymer FEM Ansys

Hello everyone,

I hope to find an answer to my problem in this forum.

I'm working on the finite element model of a SMP in order to predict the recovery shape after heating. I'm in trouble about the material properties of this kind of polymer. I run tensile stress test, DMA and TMA in order to characterise the material. However I didn't succeed to write the good command in Ansys to get a shape memory effect.

Does anyone of you has knowledges about SMP ?

Thank you very much,

Michel

Reduce dof's in FEM

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

Hi

  I have MDOF equation:

                MX"+CX'+KX = F(t).

Say the order of each matrix is  nXn. I want to reduce the order of the matrices.

I will find the eigen vectors and get modal vectors matrix phi. I will pick some dominating frequencies say around 24 modes.

then reducedM = phi'*M*phi.

Now reduceM has an order of 24X24. Will this procedure give me satisfactory result at last? or are there any other methods to reduce the dof's.

Thanks in advance...

FE modeling of dispersion in cylinders

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

As you may know wave propagation in circular cylinders is dispersive. As shown by Pochhammer, there
could be several different modes propagating in an infinite cylinder with
different wave speeds. I'm modeling wave propagation in a finite 3D circular cylinder in

LS-DYNA with solid elements and I'm applying a sinusoidal pressure along

Co-op for PhD student

Colleagues,

I'd like to check if there are any good resources or ways to find additional co-op for a PhD student which will supplement current research in material science and optimization problems related to plastic deformation of sheet metals? More info about my area of research can be found at http://www.alexschmidt.net/research/default.htm and my CV http://alexschmidt.net/research/aschmidt_cv.txt

Thanks for any suggestions/advices.

How can I apply concentrated load on internal nodes?

Hello All

I have a problem in which I have to apply concentrated load on the internal nodes in specific directions.

Is it possible to apply concentrated load on internal nodes (nodes which are not on the boundary) in Abaqus, or any other FEM software?

Is it possible to for exampleuse static condensation method and define subdomains in the body and apply concentrated loads on theoundaries of an arbitrary domain?

I would be thankful if you could help me.

Free FEM-pack development for everybody

Dear All! If it will be interesting
for you please look at my FEM-pack FASTRAN. This software was developed for
dynamic analysis of the thin-walled shell-type structures and includes:
preprocessor (only for view early-developed FEM-models), processor (fast sparse
solver) and postprocessor (for view calculation results). Your opinion will be
very interesting for me.
