Research Interests
Self-healing/Smart materials: synthesis and manufacture, and characterization, and applications in aerospace, biomaterials, and industrial coatings

Nanocomposites: processing and evaluation including dispersion of nanofillers, elastic and fracture properties, toughening mechanisms, time-dependent deformation, fatigue, and viscoelasticity; applications in automobile industries and multifunctional areas

Phase change materials (PCMs) for energy storage: development of novel nanoencapsulation technique for organic PCMs, characterization including thermophysical property and heat transfer, applications for sustainable energy storage and regeneration in micro- and nanostructured materials including fuel cells, MEMS, and NEMS

Research Expertise
Materials and sample preparation: nano-/microencapsulation of healing agent and catalyst, preparation of self-healing composites, manufacture of thermoplastic and thermosetting polymer-based nanocomposites
Mechanical test: elastic and fracture testing, creep and fatigue, fracture and toughening analysis
Thermal analysis: Thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC); Dynamic mechanical thermo-analysis (DMTA); Coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CTE)
Chemistry analysis: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization -Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-MS), Electrospray Ionization (ESI), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC)
Imaging and analysis: Optical microscope, Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Mechanical roughness measuring device (Perthometer), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
Computation and modeling: microcapsule mechanics, viscoelastic analysis, constitutive modeling of nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes filled polymers, and deformation of microcapsules
