Modelling Crack propagation in a viscoelastic material using cohesive zone modelling in abaqus.

Hello everyone,

I need to validate crack propagation in a viscoelastic material using Cohesive Zone Modelling. I have given following properties as  fracture criterion.

Damage initiation= MAXS damage, Normalstress=Shear1=Shear2=3.4MPa.

Damage Propagation:

Type: Energy,

Softening: Exponential

Degradation: Maximum

Mixed mode behaviour: Power Law

Mode mix ratio: Energy

Power:1

Fracture energy(Normal)=Shear1=Shear2=274J/m2.

Cohesive Zone Model and XFEM

Hello all,

I am trying to model crack propagation in ABAQUS to simulate four point beam bending test. I am using 3D model. I am using XFEM for propagating the crack. I am not getting the required output parameters ( J-integral and SIF ), instead i am getting only PHILSM and PSILSM. I dont know how to extract the required parameters from these two values. For modelling a crack propagation, whether CZM is reliable or XFEM is reliable??. What are the disadvantages of CZM over XFEM( other than predefined crack path ). Any suggestions will be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

Pile- Raft foundation using ABAQUS

Hello all,

I have modelled a pile raft foundation using ABAQUS. The pressure applied on raft is 360kPa. After the program is executed, I tried to calculate the stress taken by each pile. It was found that the stress taken by a single pile is 35MPa which is 100 times more than the total applied load. But the settlements are reasonable. What might be the reason for this? Can somebody explain this?

Thanks in advance,

Prashanthi.

Modelling of Crack Propagation in ABAQUS

Hello all,

I am new to ABAQUS. And my work is to model reflective crack propagation in flexible pavements. Initially i am trying to model a crack propagation in a beam with two point loads. I have tried to use both contour integral and XFEM. I need the values of J-integral at the crack tip. When i am asking J-integral in history output ( In a model where i used XFEM), it is showing that J-inegral is available for XFEM cracks which are not stationary XFEM cracks. I don't know how to resolve this issue. Can somebody help me?

Thanks in advance
