Mechanical/Civil/ Material Science Engineer /Physicist (Ph.D.student/postdoc-position) at Hamburg University of Technology(TUHH)

The Institute of Continuum and Material Mechanics of the Hamburg
University of Technology TUHH offers a temporary research position
starting from 1.12.2013  until 30.06.2016, to a

Mechanical Engineer/ Civil Engineer/Physicist/Material Science Engineer
(Ph.D.-student/postdoc-position) seeked for modelling and simulation of
a multiscaled composite.

Salary regulations according to German standard «EGr. 14 TV-L«,

Ref.-No.: D-13-129

The position is open within the project B6 «Modeling and simulation of
interphase properties of a metal-polymer composite on the nano scale».
The project is a part of the DFG Collaborative Research Center «SFB 986:
Tailor-Made Multi-Scale Materials Systems - M3», research area B. The
salary is according to the German standard 14 TV-L (for details, see

Description of the position:

The designated project topic involves the development of a multi-scale
material model to describe the material behavior of composites. These
structures are of high technological interest in industry due to their
superior mechanical properties over homogeneous materials. In this
regard, the applicant will develop, formulate and implement numerical
models into a finite element code (e.g., ABAQUS). For this purpose,
experience in non-linear continuum mechanics and finite element methods
are essential. Programming experience in at least one language (C, C++,
Fortran, MATLAB) is expected. Knowledge of finite element codes is an
advantage. We expect good English language skills. German language
skills are an asset.

Candidates will have access to many different technologies in material
science due to DFG Collaborative Research Centre M³. In addition,
candidates will profit from the wide spread scientific contacts to
fellow scientists working in two Hamburg universities and in the
Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Centre for Materials and Coastal Research,
located near Hamburg. The PhD candidates will also take part in the DFG
Research Training Group, a special initiative organised within the
collaborative research centre.

Requirements on candidates:

-academic degree in physics or engineering (master degree for a Ph.D.
student position, Ph.D. degree for Postdoc position)

-knowledge in continuum mechanics

-good English language skills

TUHH aims to increase the percentage of women at the institution;
therefore, women are especially encouraged to apply. Disabled persons
with same qualification will be favoured.

Please send your application (including your CV, PDF of main
publications, reference letters) to
