scientific researcher - material modeling - Lüneburg, Germany

The Institute of Product and Process Innovation (PPI) at the Leuphana University Lueneburg – foundation under public law – is offering a position as

scientific researcher (f/m) – Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in

EG 13 TV-L

to begin as soon as possible for a period of 3 years (plus possible 2 years extension) in the field of material modeling and process simulation. The position has the purpose of promoting young researcher and is intended for a PhD student or postdoctoral researcher. The professorship "Local Engineering, in particular Process Simulation“ focuses on the development of suitable models for different classes of innovative materials based on the physical deformation mechanisms as well as on the modeling and simulation of local production processes. In the provided research project, which will be suitable for a PhD or habilitation thesis, the applicant will develop, formulate and implement numerical models into a finite element code (e.g. ABAQUS) for materials and processes. In particular, the material modeling of a new polymer will be contemplated. However, the final research topic can be slightly adjusted to the skills of the candidate.

You will be intensively supervised and work in a pleasant working environment. You have the opportunity to actively shape the research field and a variety of professional and personal opportunities through close cooperation with research and industry partners. As the professorship is shared with the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, a close cooperation with this research institute exists and will be strengthened. You will have the chance to participate in international conferences, summer schools and seminars.

Typical tasks:

-    Support in the acquisition and developing of research projects in the field of the professorship. Documentation and Publication of the results in international journals.

-    Your role will involve a limited amount of teaching in accordance with § 31 Abs.1 NHG, of 4 hours per week.

-    Further personal qualification (either PhD or habilitation, if PhD is available).

-    Development and numerical implementation of material and process models according to the research project.

-    Typical administrative tasks.

Essential characteristics:

-    Above-average completed university degree, especially in the fields computational mechanics, mechanical or civil engineering, mathematics, computer sciences, physics or similar.

-    PhD in accordance with the given field of research if habilitation is intended.

-    Programming experience in at least one language (C, C++, Fortran, MATLAB) is expected.

-    A high level of proficiency in the English language (written and spoken).

Desirable characteristics:

-    Experience in continuum mechanics, finite element methods and material modeling are beneficial. Knowledge of finite element codes such as ABAQUS is an advantage.

-    German language skills are an asset.

Leuphana University Lueneburg is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering heterogeneity among its staff. Disabled applicants with equal qualifications will be given priority consideration. We are looking forward to your application.
