Display a picture of yourself. iMechanica displays your own picture every time you post an entry. You only need to upload a picture once, following these steps:

  1. Find a picture on your computer (maximum dimensions 85x85 and maximum size 100 kB).
  2. Click "my account" in the top left corner of any page, then click "edit".
  3. Upload your picture.

Random images on the left side of iMechanica. If you have an image of an intriguing mechanical phenomenon, or of a distinguished mechanician, you may want to add the image to the pool of images that appear randomly on the left side of iMechanica. To do so, use either one of the two methods:

Method A

  1. Click image.
  2. Enter a title, enter a body of text, browse the image, and then go to the bottom to click "Submit".

Method B

  1. Click the button “add image” beneath the posting window. A small window pops up, displaying existing images on the server.
  2. Click “Upload” at the top of the pop-up window. Enter a title, enter a body of text, browse the image, and then go to the bottom to click "Submit".
  3. A lot of text appears. Ignore the text, and click “Start Over” at top right corner. You will see the image in the small window.
  4. Note that there is a button that says insert, but this will not insert the picture into your blog post. It only adds the image to the database of pictures in iMechanica.

An image uploaded this way behaves like a post in iMechanica. Text and tags that you enter will help people search for the image. You can locate your post by clicking recent posts in the header of iMechanica, and then click the tab "my recent posts"..

Attach an image to a post. You can attach an image to a post just as you can attach other types of files. Click "File attachments" beneath the posting window.

Display an image in your blog post. You can display an image in a blog post, and make the text of your post wraps around the image. Here are the steps:

  1. Open two windows in your browser. One window displays the web page that contains the desired image, and the other window displays the posting window of iMechanica.
  2. Point the cursor to the image and drag it to the desired location in your blog post
  3. Click the image in your post. A frame will appear around the image.
  4. There is a toolbar in the section labeled "body" that is specifically to format the body of the post. Click the first button in the second row in the toolbar. A small window titled "insert/edit image"pops up.
  5. Within the "insert/edit image" window there is a drop-down list called “alignment”. Select one option for your image. Then click “update” in the bottom-left corner.

Note that the "add image" link below the body section does not add the image to the body of the blog post. It is necessary to drag the image into the post like it's stated in step 2.

Copyright of an image found online. When no copyright statement appears on the original web page, the web page is likely under a Creative Commons License, just as iMechanica is. If you are unsure of copyright, please contact the creator of the web page.

I tried to add an image to my comment, so I uploaded it first with 'Add image' link in separate window and then dragged it to the original window with my comment.

The preview image appears in the comment and I set it up to be a "link to image page". However, when I preview the comment, the image is a link but points to a page like "http://imechanica.org/img_assist/properties/8626", which is the edit page of the image ;-(

The other feature which is not working - "Insert" button does not insert the image anywhere.

We should improve adding images more user-friendly, I'll be glad to help the web administrators.

 Thanks

Peter

I love the support you are giving on being able to add tags. I know that most image uploaders don't give you access to the title tags. This will really help other users find photos that I add when searching online, thanks!

Adding images on post can attract to users by which more and more users take interest to visit the site. Adding images on post also increases articles value. So right images according to article should be posted for better look of the blog. Uploading pictures or images is little bit difficult to users for whcih proper guidance is must. Uploading image to iMechanica will be easy for users because steps of uploading is clearly mentioned, so one should go throughly through these steps for uploading. Really valuable information.
