A Field Theoretic Approach to the Quasi-Continuum Method

Dear Colleagues,

I wish to bring to your attention my recent work with Mrinal Iyer on a field theoretic approach to the quasi-continuum method to appear in Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids. Below is the abstract and attached is the preprint of the article. I will very much appreciate your comments and suggestions.

ANSYS transition to Abaqus: FILL, NGEN, and EGEN

In Abaqus .inp or Abaqus/CAE, are there mesh generation commands similar to ANSYS commands FILL, NGEN, and EGEN used to geneate nodes (between keypoints) and elements ?

Faculty Position in Solid Mechanics at Brown University

Brown University established a School of Engineering on July 1, 2010 and is beginning a major hiring initiative to fill multiple openings.  As part of this initiative, the School is seeking to fill a position in Solid Mechanics at any academic level to start in July 2011. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: micro/nano-scale solid mechanics, mechanics of cells and biological systems, soft matter mechanics, mechanics of materials for energy applications, computational mechanics, experimental mechanics, multiscale modeling.

stability analysis of cantilever-shaft disk (rotor) systems

i am working on the stability analysis of cantilever shaft disk 9rotor) systems. i am a beginner in this work. can any one please suggest any books or papers which can help me in my work. i will be grateful to you.

The mechanical performance of H-shaped NCF adhesively bonded joints

Adhesive bonding is contemplated as an alternative method to mechanical fastening for joining composite aerostructures.
Ongoing research in this area is focused on the development of new bonding techniques and joining elements. In this
article, the mechanical performance of the novel noncrimp fabric (NCF) H-shaped adhesively bonded joints subjected to
tension, shear and four-point bending loading conditions was investigated by both experimental tests and numerical

Material Testing Machines

Can anyone guide me how to get crosshead speed range equal to or greater than 1:3000 in a motorized electromechanical material testing machine? The load capacity should remain same even at lowest speed.

How to understand the shear modulus of polymers

Hi everybody,

I have a question about the shear modulus of polymers. As we know, the general engineering polymers (rubbers) are highly extensible and elastic. The shear modulus,G, for the polymers subjected to the small-strain conditions, can be defined by G=NkT, where N is the number of network chains, k is Boltzmann's constant and T is temperature in Kelvins.

Python scripting

Hello,

I am using python script to automate a repeatative task. During this I am faceing problem. Please help.

I have created a sketch by

 mysketch= mdb.Model(name='Cantilever') .ConstrainedSketch(name='beam', sheetSize=200.0)

 mysketch.rectangle(point1=(0,0), point2=(100,10))

I want to take underlined numbers as an input from user for that i have defined variavles as l and w of cantilever. When I use this

 mysketch.rectangle(point1=(0,0), point2=(l,w))

abaqus gives error during compilation.

question about "Extended Dracker Prager plasticity model"

Hi my friends,

i am using Dracker Prager Plasticity model in abaqus 6.6, i am working on rock sample, this rock sample shows strain softening behavior not strain hardening, but you know that Drucker Prager can simulate both hardening and softening.

i have the stress-srain diagram from the laboratory test.

my shear criterion is linear, i choosed from Suboption   Drucker Prager Hardening.

Does anyone know how to keep a record of what you have done in a CAE session?

In Abaqus/CAE, I get .cae file, but I want to teach someone else what I have done, step by step.

ANSYS keeps a log file that mimics exactly what you do in the ANSYS GUI, which is similar to CAE.

How can I get CAE to write a log file with the steps that I did in the CAE session?

Requesting help on ALE and corpuscular method in simulating airbag in LS-DYNA

Dear all,

I am currently doing my undergraduate final year project on gas flow dynamics of airbag. I am using LS-Dyna to simulate 3 different gas flow condition (uniform pressure, ALE and corpuscular).

I am able to obtain a simple model of airbag from LS-Prepost website. I am modifying it to learn more on ALE and corpuscular.

For ALE method,

Homogenization in ABAQUS

Hello everybody,

I have a problem with homogenization of fibre reinforced composite in Abaqus.

I need to get stress components S11, S22, S33, S12, S13, S23 of each element and it's volume to calculate average stress on each element. Here comes the problem: I'm trying to use Field Output calculator but I can't multiply, for example, S11(i)*EVOL(i) because there are no components of S in this calculator and I can only operate with tensor S.
